In the past few months, I have met some amazing business builders and, today, during a casual Perplexity search, I came across Aditya Vision Co-founder and Chairman - Yashovardhan Sinha. A casual search turned into 45 minutes of deep research, and I ended up feeling inspired and motivated to write this.
This piece is different because most people I know of some significance build their careers outside Bihar, but here is a man who has built a business of significance from Bihar and Share Price growth in the past 8 years is unimaginable: 3100% (32X).
The listing price in Dec 2016 was INR 15 and today it is traded around INR 480 (WoW) - imagine the wealth creation for the shareholders. If I had invested INR 1 lakhs in 2016, I could have made INR 32 lakhs in 2024.
This is also important because in this journey they raised 5.76 Cr in the IPO and this year 250 Cr. and it is a family-run business - Yashovardhan Singh ji and families own around 56%.
This was not the head turner for me. Some of the business KPIs are simply mind-blowing:
Capex per store = 50 to 60 Lakhs (this is not high because recently Apollo Healthcare shared me a Diabetic Clinic franchise proposal with Capex almost the same, fuck??)
Productivity per employee = INR 1.2Cr+ (WoW, it is probably the best in India, let me know if there are other offline retailers with this level of productivity?)
The company has a 50% market share in Bihar [This has grown over the past years despite all the buzz around online retail and discounts]
INR 2,100 PBT per sq feet (this is 3rd best PBT in India among the offline retailers]
INR 45,000 revenue per sq foot (this is insane, probably the highest)
Fy 24’s revenue is 1,743 Cr and 32% YoY growth (again insane)
The only reason there is no talk about these insane business metrics in the mainstream is because Aditya Vision is considered a regional retail brand, unfortunately.
I have been in Patna for almost 3 years and attended many events but not even a single time have I heard people talking about Aditya Vision or Yashovardhan Sinha ji or his presence in any local startup event. There are not many media articles and no interviews except a few interviews related to stock performances.
Imagine, the depth of knowledge, insights, and core understanding, he has, about India’s largest consumer segment - Hindi-speaking consumers from Bihar, UP, Jharkhand etc.
Yashovardhan Sinha ji has been a silent wealth and job creator from Bihar. He has dedicated his life to building a legacy it is a good time, he should appear more in public and share his learnings and knowledge with young builders committed to building for the next 25 years from Bihar for the world.
At the intersection of space and time, Bihar is at the cusp of taking off to becoming a prosperous State. I believe people like Yashovardhan Sinha ji’s contribution will play an important role in accelerating therefore he must be part of the ecosystem and contribute significantly.
It should also be the responsibility of the existing members to seek his time, as he possesses a rare and invaluable understanding of building for India’s largest consumer segment—something most business builders in the country overlook.
Allow me to take the lead in making this request:
Yashovardhan Ji, we have aspiration to build world biggest Healthcare company, however, it would be an honor to meet you. Over the years, I have actively sought opportunities to learn from veterans like you, and today, I am taking the initiative to reach out. Practical wisdom comes from seasoned leaders, and I truly believe a conversation with you would be immensely enlightening!
